During the sequel, The Empire Strikes Back, Luke learns that Anakin Skywalker was his father and that Anakin moved over to the dark side and became the feared Darth Vader. Master Yoda assigns Luke the task of confronting Darth Vader. In the third film, Return of the Jedi, Luke fights Vader and ultimately redeems him. Luke Skywalker fulfills his destiny as a Jedi after helping to destroy the evil Empire.
