Taught by Obi-Wan Kenobi who was his Jedi Master, he becomes a murderer and outlaw who eventually kills Kenobi and even tries to eliminate his own children. However, he does return from the dark side of the Force and is ultimately redeemed by his son, Luke. Anakin / Vader ultimately gives his life to save his son’s life. He dies in his son’s arms in 1983’s Return of the Jedi. Darth Vader becomes a cultural icon and we all want to wear his costumes when Halloween rolls around.

Many actors undertook the role of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader to cover the original trilogy and the prequels as well as sequels. Among them, in Return of the Jedi in 1983, Anakin Skywalker was played by Sebastian Shaw. Jake Lloyd portrayed him in the 1999 release of The Phantom Menace when Anakin was only nine years old. It worked out fine since Anakin had to age during the film series. However, Sebastian Shaw was digitally replaced with Hayden Christiansen who portrayed Anakin in 2002’s Attack of the Clones for the 2004 DVD release.
