Luke’s father had taken the name of Darth Vader before Luke was born, when he went over to the dark side of the Force. Darth Vader caused much distress and havoc throughout the galaxy. Emperor Palpatine told Vader that Luke must not become a Jedi and that he must convince Luke to turn to the dark side or kill him. Darth Vader captures Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca and C-3PO to use as bait in order to attract Luke to his side. They have an incredible lightsaber duel where Luke learns that Vader is his father. Luke redeems his father who then sacrifices himself to save his son. Luke joins the Rebel Alliance and becomes a folk hero. His ability to fly a starship in subsequent galactic wars is apparent when he becomes an ace X-Wing Fighter Pilot.
